Linear LED Tape: Eliminating the "Dotted" Effect
One of the most disappointing outcomes in DIY smart lighting is exposed LED diodes reflecting as a row of ugly dots across polished kitchen stone or glossy hardwood. Achieving a continuous, seamless blade of light requires understanding diode density and optical diffusion.
Traditional SMD (Surface Mount Diode) strips have 30 to 60 diodes per meter. Without a deep extrusion channel, the individual light points remain visible through thin frosted acrylic. Modern COB (Chip-on-Board) LED strips pack 480 to 600 micro-diodes under a continuous phosphor ribbon, yielding a spotless, uniform light bar even in shallow 7mm aluminum profiles.
Voltage Selection: 12V vs 24V Systems
For runs longer than 3 meters (10 feet), always opt for 24V tape instead of 12V tape. 12V runs suffer noticeable voltage drop—causing LEDs at the far end of the strip to look dimmer and shift toward pinkish-red tones.
